FEED!! Blog numero dos :)

So further blogging for the FEED? Ok then, well this book is just depressing me and making me laugh at the same time (queer thought huh?). This is probably because I like happiness and joy and that is not what is happening. I do not call skin falling off and people getting sick fun times. Any who the book is very interesting and is taking our society's way of life and taking it further. Like how we follow trends and the way we feel the need to always be connected to some type of communication. So here goes with some topics from the book that I decided were important and decided I wanted to write about.

SchoolTM?

In our society school is pretty much a way of life. You go to learn subjects such as math, english, and so forth, but you also learn other life lessons. How to get friends, how to handle boys, how to deal with that weird chick that won't leave you the fuck alone and whatnot. You learn how to work with others and resources to try and make the best of your life. Now as a consumerist society, a lot of the time, people seem to be focusing more on what society deems important and not what should be important. We are obsessed with the human quality ofy confusing need and want. Rich or poor, beautiful or ugly, every one wants stuff, because getting what we want makes us happy for at least a short time, and anything that can make life seem a little bit more bareable is good for us, that's why we shop, shop and shop some more. The only good thing about corporations teaching how to consume better is that they would get richer and we would get the feeling of happiness shopping brings more often. It would be bad though, because if we continuously consume a bunch of crap we don't need then we will end up hurting the earth (like in the story), get bored of things and waste it, and people will forget whats really important. Corporations running schools is a bad idea. Nothing would be the same. :(

Respond to passage: waiting to make you want/knowing what you need before you do?

In this book their marketing strategies are pretty much the same as ours except they only show each individual what they feel that person will like, and the ads are in your fricken brain out of no where, even worse then when ads get stuck in your head now. My "type" would probably be girly or random. I would probably get bantered with pretty colors and ads with nice voices. Things that appeal to my ears and vision. There would be pinks and greens and all kinds of crap I don't need, but I would want because I am reminded of it. If I could "chat" like the characters in this book I would probably be just as bad as them. I would be like Titus's dad and not even talk out loud really, unless I wanted others to hear what I was saying. It would be perfect for my unwillingness to call or text people on the regular. Pretty much I would be a hermit crab in my chatting cell. Haha, but anyways if communication did come to this there would be no more phones, e-mail and probably not much face-to-face unless it was absolutely necessary.

In the story it also says that it is like the feed knows what you need before you do. I don't feel this is true. I feel that the feed doesn't care what you need, but really cares about what it thinks it can get you to want. Like with the lesions and hair-dos in the story. No one really changes their hair all day just because the trend changes, but the feed can get a person to believe they are not cool unless they follow the trend. It is the same with the lesions. Who could possibly want a nasty "crying" sore on their body? The feed finds out your weakness and hits those points. Its like in our society. Most people won't go to school in something that is all bright orange unless it seemed exceptable. Pretty much the feed is just their to make you want and seem like all it is is "user friendly."

You want this. It is cool. Oh?Wow!Thing!

OOO! Pretty colors, cool stuff, I want it!!!!

FEED!!! Blog numero uno

So I am currently still reading Feed and it is amazingly out there and weird, but at the same time I do wonder what if this could happen. I can hardly stand it now when a phrase or song gets stuck in my head, how could I possibly handle something in my mind continuously bantering me with all kinds of bull shit I don't need? I think I would get "meg" frustrated and start rocking back and forth like an idiot.

The world seems to be getting lazier, generation after generation. In our society we don't really need to solve our problems any more, because there is usually something to solve them for us. In America, where technology surrounds us and is used daily, we take it for granted and don't know what to do with out it. In the book Feed about 70 percent of the people have a feed and if you think about it, in our culture its probably the same amount that depends on Internet, phones and other technology. The other percent either can't afford the technology or they know they do not need it to live their life. It seems as though people are always craving something new and exciting to fill them self with so that they can try and feel better, but every new thing only makes them happy for a short while and then they go on to find the next thing to make them happy. This cycle continuously repeats itself and makes up what is known as consumerism.

Its funny how in this book they use words and phrases that sound totally bizarre and unknown, but maybe the author wanted it like that. This whole story seems crazy and the language only emphasizes it more. Also it is completely sad that the people who were born with feeds don't even know how to write and their school consists of pretty much learning how to use their feeds. They no longer need math or reading skills, because the feed works for them. It doesn't seem worth it and plus people are even getting these lesions from the feed. Nobody seems to be individual any more because when they think, its not really thinking for them self.

When I hear about them going to the moon and complaining about how boring it is it surprises me like it did Violet. Partying on the moon sounds so extravagant and impossible to us now and knowing that they think its boring is a definite shock. The moon and other planets are still a mystery to us, but it just further proves how nothing keeps you happy forever. An example that reminds me of this is Valley Fair. The first time I went there it was incredible and fun, but when I go now I'm just tired and get bored easily, so now for a fun time I will be going to Six Flags this summer. Yes I have just admitted I am like any other fun seeking person, but I hope to never be at the point where I forget whats important. This story definitely opens my eyes to what our future could be and hopefully this isn't really our destiny.
